Why should Catholics be glad to pay taxes?

Jesus was very clear. Matthew 5: 44, “But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you:”

Many are too slothful or vain to do useful work. They prefer to rely on the power of the state to confiscate from others to provide for them. They become enemies of productive workers.

The vain and slothful inevitable gain political advantage. Why? To stay in office, those who steal must have supporters. How do they get them? By doling out tax money to make allies of other vain, slothful people.

The process is inevitable: Nations become poorer. Corruption becomes beyond control. The nation sinks into slavery.

Governments controlled by the vain and slothful print as as much money as is needed. Restraints disappear. Those who feed on frauds and deceptions grow ever richer. Bribes flow like water. Corruption becomes institutionalized. Those who tell the truth are labeled “Enemies of the state.” They are threatened, audited, charged, imprisoned, and done away with.

Why does God allow this destruction of every nation in every age?

He separates sheep from goats. He divides those who steal and lie from those who chose to obediently love Him and their neighbors.

The taxes we Catholics should cheerfully pay are used by The Great Accountant in the Sky to examine the ledgers of those who lied and misused those taxes. Taxes give God the means to pass Judgment on those who choose to lie and steal. We should be happy to help God.

Punishments are increased when thefts are compounded by lies. Those who justify theft with lies are guilty of Compound Fraud. Those guilty of Compound Fraud are sentenced to the lower, more agonizing circles of Hades.

Why should Catholics be glad to pay taxes? We are tested, as well. If we are able to love those who hurt us, we are doing His will. Obedient lovers of God and neighbor are blessed with endless, joyful tomorrows.
