Long before microscopes, Catholic theologians understood the power and size of angels well enough to ask: “How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?”  That profound question proves that Catholics comprehend proportion.

Catholics Fundamentalism knows that Elijah was blessed to see God.  In 1 Kings 19:11-13 the Prophet tells us that God is a tiny “gentle breeze” that had just caused a storm that “shattered mountains”.  Catholics comprehend proportion enough to conclude: “God and His angels are no bigger than they need to be.”

Gabriel gave Mary God’s message.  Luke 1: 28-29 “He went in and said to her ‘Rejoice, so highly favored!  The Lord is with you.”

Most of the paintings of The Annunciation show Gabriel as being the same size as Mary, in human form.  When Gabriel “went in”, Catholics comprehend proportion enough to understand that His messenger did not waste energy taking human form in the room, but went straight into the optic and analytic sections of her mind and “appeared” within those molecules and neurons.

Catholics  are blessed to understand that we may ask Holy Saints and Angels in the Hierarchy of Heaven, “Please, help me avoid sin and obey God.”  That request automatically transmits more power to our Guardian Angel who uses it to call for the assistance needed.

Our Guardian Angels are no bigger than the tiny bright spot we sometimes see when our eyes are closed in prayer.  When we ask our Guardian angel for help, we are actually asking for reinforcements to remove the equally tiny, vicious demons that run rampant within our minds.  The more we pray, the more help we get!

Our Guardian Angel is far, far smaller than one of the five million red blood cells that can fit on the head of a pin.

Catholics understand proportion.  We understand that there is a Hierarchy in Heaven.  God’s angels help those with sense enough to ask.

P.S.   Pro-Life Catholics realize that over a dozen of the youngest humans, the tiniest and most helpless of our neighbors, will also fit on the head of a pin.
