May Protestants Pray: “Incline My Heart, O God, to Your Decrees?”

Adam and Eve are expelled from the Garden of Eden.

The Church Spoken Into Being by Christ

There are two groups of people on Earth: Eve, Adam, and Cain disobeyed God. Abel obeyed.

For 2,000 years, the Holy Spirit has led Catholics to gratefully remain in the only Church spoken into being by the Word of Him Who fulfilled the prophecies and said to His first Catholic Pope:

“And I say unto you, thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Pride, PEGGALS, and the Words of Christ

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 5:33–37), Jesus mentions “the evil one”—the same one who leads souls to reject that very teaching.

The demon of pride opens the door to hell with the deadly thought:

“I know more than Jesus.”

Pride invites in six more demons: envy, greed, gluttony, anger, lust, and sloth. Together, they form one unholy acronym: PEGGALS.

How do we keep these demons from dragging our souls to hell?

Christ answers in today’s Gospel:

“Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the evil one.”
