My Neighbor and Your Neighbor Live in the Same Neighborhood.

Not far down the road, there’s a man who’s very worried. Twenty years ago, he was very worried about Global Warming. Five years ago, he was even more worried about Global Freezing. Now, he’s equally concerned about Climate Change.

Over the past twenty years, he’s been worried about rising and falling sea levels. And, he’s been very concerned about the ozone hole, even though others have forgotten. He believes that guns should be controlled and that people are driving too much.

He’s bothered by a plague of overweight Americans, particularly the plumper children. He’s not worried much about pornography, drug use, educational failures, high taxes, or excessive regulations and governmental tyranny.

He only worries about what he’s told is worrisome. And, he’s good at it. He’s never realized that his soul has shriveled into a shrinking peach pit of gullibility. He’s never thought that maybe every issue that makes the “news” has two goals, the enrichment of those pushing for “serious consideration” of their profitable Imaginary Problems and the distraction of such worriers from real issues, like rising taxes, falling values of money, and increased tyranny.

Still, we’re commanded by the highest authority to love our neighbors, even those, who, like lemmings, are plunging over cliffs, both intellectuall, politically, and spiritually.
