The Popular Fear-God Has a Cohort. Less

Last week, on July 16, we considered that great breakthrough in state theology, their powerful god, Fear. The government god known as Fear often walks hand in hand with Less. Together, they stride proudly through throngs of us commoners, impressing all whom they do not destroy.

Less, though not as powerful as Fear, is one of the highest ranking icons in modern government. Virtually every bureaucrat believes that everyone but they should have lots more Less. Less, in fact, is the only thing they believe we should have in plenty.

According to most of our rulers, we should be eating Less food, using Less fuel, taking Less medicine, have Less room in our dwellings, Less electricity in everything that needs it, travel Less, drink Less, wear Less, have Less children, live Less lengthy life spans, and move with Less speed. All their desires for us are summed up by the second god in their pantheon, Less.

Often, Less uses pseudonyms like “Sustainability”, Environmentally Friendly”, “Green”, and “Eco-sensitive”. Lower ranking worshippers in the temple of government are not learned enough in their faith’s theological fine points to recognize that such names do not label separate gods. They are merely different names for Less’s more frequent appearance among us.

In color, Fear is red. Less is green.
