Most of us are actually the children of Father Abraham.

Today’s Gospel Reading includes Mt. 10: 6-8.  Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus, “Go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”

The “lost sheep of Israel” include the Ten Northern Tribes.  They had been deported from Israel in 720 B.C. and sent North.   Many began to move throughout Europe.

Did they maintain tribal identities as they migrated?  The Tribe of Gad is memorialized in pre-Roman Britain as the Gadenes.  The Tribe of Simon, by the Simonii, was also in Britain.  Dan’s tribe went to Denmark.  The Tribes maintained some identity.

The “Scythians”, specifically mentioned in the Bible, were the progenitors of the many Gothic peoples who settled in, and spread out from, the Caucasus.  That is why white people are called “Caucasian”.  The Tribes migrated, often in covered wagons, a process that continued until their descendants hit the Pacific Coast after crossing America.  Since migrants were often neighbors, many in small town America have been relatives, moving together for nearly 3,000 years.

In Europe, they were often moving into areas previously settled by earlier migrating Hebrews.  “Iberian” and “Hibernia” are both words derived from “Hebrew”.   There are many such connections.

Is there any scientific validation that these relationships exist? Recent DNA studies suggest that all Europeans may be descended from one man.  Catholic Fundamentalism suggests that man is Father Abraham.

Most of us are actually the children of Father Abraham.

This theory is part of Catholic Fundamentalism and The New Evangelization.  It is as politically incorrect as it’s possible to be.  It does little good to tell unbelievers about it.
